GED Although I now have a Masters Degree, I never attended a high school, never finished middle school. At the age of 13 I was illegally taken out of school by my parents and was never allowed to return. The last grade completed was 6th. Over the next 24 years I grazed out of libraries doing “delight directed studies.” Whatever I delighted in, whatever caught my interest, I studied. In order to get a GED in 1990 I took the five tests, and received the GED certificate.
Therefore, I understand the difference between ‘schooling’ and ‘education.’ I have a lot of respect for people who educate themselves, in or out of school. I have tremendous compassion for those who experience the challenges of having the education, but not the degrees or credentials to compete in our society.
